This week, the children have been writing a rainforest counting rhyme, based on the book, Over in the Jungle by Marianne Berkes which is also available as a beautiful interactive app. First we had to find words which rhyme with the numbers one to ten and also to find powerful verbs which would either rhyme or be alliterative. The children all agreed that line 2 of the poem was the hardest to write. Why do you think that might be? Here is their work. (Top tip: clicking on the pictures will make them easier to read!)
Dasha, Sasha L, David, Solaeman, German and Masha worked as a group to write the rhyme for the number one.
Jeannie, Baran and Mary wrote rhymes for the number 2.
Jasmine and Olympia worked together to write the rhyme for number 3, though Olympia was absent when we copied out our neat versions.
Felicity and Jack also wrote a rhyme together for the number 3
Sasha B and India wrote a rhyme for the number 4 but India was absent when we wrote up our neat copies.
Max and Jason wrote and illustrated the number 5.
Uzala and Charlie wrote the number seven rhyme….
Sophie, Jake, Laura and Arian worked in pairs to write the number nine.
Next week, we hope to perform these rhymes to some of the younger children in the school.
